As the keyboardist for Barenaked Ladies, this venerated rock pianist is a reliable factory of amiable hybrids. He connects good-natured blues stomping, sentimental melody and classical allusions, all rendered in busy but authoritative virtuosity. Kevin's successful battle with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia has influenced his music - his 2001 release "H-Wing" was named after the isolation ward at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto where he wrote most of the album. It is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, transcending desperate situations, and dealing with one's mortality. His next album, "Nightlight" is lighter in tone, with a "life goes on" mentality streaming throughout its twelve tracks. In Kevin's words, "the title symbolizes the hope and guidance we draw on to help us through tough times". His most recent release, "The Miracle Mile", is a collection of songs that explore "expectations, hopes and dreams, disappointments and disillusionment". Kevin & his band Thin Buckle have been making music together for over a decade, and are scheduled to release a new album in early 2006. |
